WHAT’S UP, MUTANTS? is a DIY CDR project focusing on space rock, psychedelic, experimental, and ambient music. This could be anything from free jazz to stoner metal to cut up electronics depending on the artists who submit tracks to this collaborative effort. It is assembled by musician/producer Joe Davis (HARTS HORN, THE FAR LOOK, BLOOD OF THE DRAGON) who assembles the tracks and artwork and then distributes master copies to all the bands/artists involved. They are then free to make copies to distribute, sell, trade, or give away as they see fit. This offers a grass roots means for the music to be heard by a much broader audience without utilizing the usual commercial methods of distribution. If the WHAT’S UP, MUTANTS? series has a purpose (other than that of it’s own existence) it is to facilitate a sense of community amongst the artists involved and to promote and contribute to the growing culture of truly independent music and CDR trading that has always existed.
